I was just wondering, if she left the property to her cousin and then for it to be divided on his death between his children, wouldn't that indicate that she was childless and didn't have anyone to leave it to? So probably either a childless widow or a single person?

Going back, Walter seems to be the eldest. Is 5 on 1851 (still at Horse Shoe farm)

This could therefore be the marriage
Oct/Nov/Dec 1845
Belper
ref 19 472
no Elizabeth listed, but some names are missing

Looking at Elizabeths married that quarter in Belper, there are many. None with surname Goodall, but then cousins often don't have same surnames if for one (or both) or them it is the mother who is the sibling of the other cousins parent.

Ill try and look through them and see which one has a ref that should be 19 472!

I'm sorry, but why would that Elizabeth leave property to her cousin if she had daughters and sons in law, and therefore close family?

I've no idea!
Unless it was left to her with some conditions. Or her husband had built up a sizeable estate from his innkeeping, or had money inherited from his family, which went to the daughters, and she left her property (which may have come from her side of the family originally) to her cousin for some reason.

But it was the only Will (post 1858), so I was trying to build up a picture of that Elizabeth Froggatt with a view to either ruling it out, or ruling it in!

Maybe we can rule her out - or at least say that she is unlikely. Wont know for sure without getting the Will.   But, in the absence of a better candidate, she remains in the running!

Considering where the property was, could there be any connection with this Elizabeth in 1841?

John Froggatt  - father Thomas
Elizabeth Elllis - father William
Marriage    25 Jul 1842, Matlock

Looks good, as Elizabeth Ellis was chr Matlock in Nov 1822, bn Jun 1822, parents William and Sarah.

Now - was William Ellis or Sarah xxxxx a sibling of either Robert Goodall or Hannah xxxxx ? ?

If so, she is our girl!
If not, then she still might be, if cousin is being used in a general sense and they are really second cousins or something!

Or, as groom has sensibly pointed out, does she seem an unlikely candidate altogether?

(red writing Mabel - Well done, I see you have got Sarah's maiden name)
