Matthew Hart
« on: Friday 12 February 16 17:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I've been trying to look up my ancestor Matthew Hart b abt 1770 on Ancestry. In 1818 in the Nottingham election second day poll book, page 9, it says Matthew Hart, grocer, Greenwich?
There are a few entries that list places other than streets and areas in Nottingham, what does that mean? The book is listed as being in the Parish of Nottingham.
I have no idea where my Matthew was born and I'm struggling to find out anything about him.
I think his wife was Jane Marshall born 1773 in Beeston. He married her I think in 1796 in Radford and their daughter Sarah Hart b 1806 had a daughter called Jane Rushworth b. 1830.
Can anyone help with the poll book meaning or find Matthew on the census as I am struggling!
Thanks.

Hi Keyboard86,
Thanks for looking for me but I don't think that Matthew is mine due to the wife's name. I think my Matthew's children were Mary b 1798, William b 1800, Ann b 1804 and Sarah b 1806.

:) No problem, I was surprised just how many Matthew Hart's their were in Nottinghamshire!

Re Jane Rushworth aged 10 daughter I take it of John/Sarah as I see Meynel Row mentioned on baptism, the 1841 Jane above is at Mennel Court?

Hi,

There is a burial of a Jane Hart at St Peters Radford on 29 July 1821 aged 47 yrs could be Matthew's wife.  Also there is a marriage at St Peters Radford for a Matthew Hart on 29 Apirl 1827 to Ann Potter could this be a second marriage.

Also a burial for a Matthew Hart aged 66yrs (making year of birth 1767) on 20 Jan 1833 at St Peters Radford says abode was Radford.

Also found a burial for Matthew Hart son of Matthew and Jane on 25 Dec 1802 at St Peters and burial of Mary daughter of Matthew and Jane on 25 Oct 1799 at St Peters.

Thanks everyone! Some extra burials to add! I can confirm via Jane Rushworth's marriage certificate and the 1841 census that she is sister to the John Rushworth mentioned.
If the Elizabeth Hart b 1817 is my Matthew and Jane's then I guess this Matthew could not be the one in the 1818 poll books down as a grocer?
