Looking for husband/partner of Elsie May Noel - George Richardson
« on: Thursday 18 February 16 00:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

I have hit a block with finding some details in relation to the partner of my Great Grandmother.  I do not know if they were married.

They had one child (my gran) Shirley May Richardson.

I have searched the VIC records and there are no records for a marriage and it appears that my nan may have been fostered out to another family and George disappeared.

I am unable to get my nan's birth certificate for another 8 years as my Aunt being the next of kin won't let me have it.  So any ideas of how I research more?

Not sure if this is the right person but according to Vic BDM an Elsie Eliz Noel married Edward Vincent Stack in 1937.

If this is her, then by the use of Noel as the maiden name it would suggest no prior marriage.

Hi Miri, Thanks for your email.  Yes that is definitely the right persion.  Elsie was apparently "divorced" and changed her name back to Noel and then remarried Stack and took on his name.

I think this is your family - a divorce petition in 1926 in which Edith Clara Richardson, 29, asked for divorce from George Stephen Richardson, 30, a baker of Ballarat-street, Yarraville. They had been married in 1914. He admitted 'misconduct' with a woman named Elsie Noel who he seems to have met when the couple lived in South Melbourne.

I would guess no marriage - quite likely Elsie didn't know George was already married when they met!

Oh wow thanks so much!  I had to sit down reading this!  It actually explains a lot.  I have also located a half sister that my nan may not of been aware of as well.  Thanks again I really appreciate your help :)

It looks like ( https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/indexsearch.doj ) that they might be the 'Geo Richardson' to 'Clara Skeeehan' marriage in 1914, and that Clara possibly remarried (as Edith Clara Richardson) in 1928 to Eric Ernest Smith and died in 1961.

What happened to George I'm not certain. A "Stephen George Richardson" was fined for street betting in Yarraville in 1926, might be the same man: http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/202536905

There's a possible birth for him in 1894, as Geo Stephen Richardson son of Jos Robert and Eliza Ellen nee McIntyre. If this was him there are births for siblings and a death for his mother in 1948.

Eliza Ellen's death notices include mentions of her late husband, son George and daughter in law Rita:

The fact that they're on the same notice makes it sound to me like Rita was George's wife, but I can't see a marriage.
