Hi Handm,

I'm afraid this is the closest I could come.

1841 Census of Radnorshire
The Hundred of RADNOR

The Township of Evenjobb, Newcastle, Barland & Burfa in the Parish of Old Radnor. Index code OJ

BISTILL, Edward, 18, ag lab, No, Barland, OJ/f8/p7

I don't see Hay listed as one of the parishes on the Radnorshire Census, though.  Could it be on the Breconshire one, maybe?

All the best,
Seattle
Radnorshire - Morris, Mills, Vaughan, Crowther
Glamorgan - Thomas
Pembroke - Thomas
Sussex - Rogers
Lancashire - Ormerod, Shields, Bentley
Cumberland - Shields

Hello Seattle,

Many thanks for trying to find my Bissell ancestors in Radnor. I am struggling with this one. I had request for them in Breconshire, but they were not found. I do not know however whether this was looking at name indexes or actual images.
I had a look for the Bistill you found  on the 1861 census because I did wonder if he might be connected, but had no success there either.

Thanks again
Handn

Hello Handn,

I've checked everything I have access to and found:

Edmund and Ann (2nd wife?) in Shrewsbury St Chad, Shropshire in 1881.  Only boarders with them - no children.

On Familysearch.org:

James Bissel                          Apr 12, 1835    Hay, Brecon
Elizabeth Hannah Bissell       Nov 20, 1836    Hay, Brecon

I did notice that the name was somtimes spelled Bessell and Bessel.  Have you tried those on the 1841 Breconshire census?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Hi handm,
Might be worth posting your  request on the Herefordshire board as well, as Hay lies on the England / Wales border.

Yes, I have found those references, and the entry on the 1861 census where they were transcribed as Brasile and other variations. After much searching I found them there by just putting Edward(a son) and Ledbury in the search boxes.
I have had a look up done for me on the 1841 Brecon census, but without success.  I am still hoping to find them somewhere in the English/Welsh border area, but am running out of places to search.
Many thanks again for your time helping me.

Thank you for your suggestion to put a request on the Herefordshire boards. I did try that, with a request for a look-up in Ledbury, but nothing was found. All I know was that the children born before 1841 were born in Hay and those after 1841 were born Ledbury so it is possible that they were in either county. I think I will have to locate some alternative districts to request look-ups.
Thank you  again.
