« on: Saturday 20 February 16 16:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I don't suppose anyone can cast a fresh eye & find the Saltonstall family on the 1891 census?

Sarah J Saltonstall 1851
Clara Saltonstall    1877
Milton Saltonstall 1878
Emma Saltonstall  1880
Elisha Saltonstall   1882
they are from the Yorkshire area Todmorden.

Thank you.  :)

Whilst i'm here would does anyone know if there would be official reason rather than personal reason as to why

Sarah J Saltonstall born Sarah Jane Lumb 1854 to Samuel Lumb & Elizabeth Law, upon marriage to Thomas Saltonstall in Dec 1874 listed herself as Sarah Law (her mother's maiden name) & her fathers name was left blank even though he didn't die until 1880?

Is this the family in 1871  :-\
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZGP-996

Samuel Lumb   47 bn Sowerby, Yorkshire
Elizabeth    53 bn Royston, Yorkshire
Sarah 19   Bradford, Yorkshire
Mary 17   Bradford, Yorkshire

If it is Sarah is listed as 19 which would mean she was probably born before Samuel Lumbs marriage to Elizabeth Law in March qtr 1853 and Samuel may not have been her father

Hi Rosie,
Your right i never thought of that, 6 of the children were all baptised on the same day in 1863, listing their DOB funny thing is Sarah's is 20/7/1850 & her sister Mary Ellen's is 18/1/1853. Sarah's does not match up with the all her other info & both girls appeared to have been born before Samuel & Elizabeth married. maybe Sarah did not like samuel though he seemed to have taken her on as his own! I'm still no closer to finding them on the census though  :-\

The chances are that Samuel was not Sarah's father then but just 'adopted' as a daughter by him.
Mary Ellen is probably his though as she was born close to their wedding.  ;D

I am still looking to answer your original request as to where Sarah is on census in 1891  :D
