BENJAMIN TOMLINSON marriage lookup please, Ashbourne, Derbyshire
« on: Sunday 21 February 16 00:13 GMT (UK) »
Benjamin son of John born 1670 in Ashbourne.  Would like to find a marriage for him and if possible for his father.  Baptism records only show fathers name.  Benjamin's first child (that I can find) baptised 1701 in Ashbourne.

Cheers!

Children Benjamin & Mary baptised 1703 & 1704 and a possibility of a Josephus in 1706 - mother Elizabeth - see FS

Did you check FS for a birth for Benjamin - possibility in 1675 but that pre-supposes he was actually born in Derbyshire

Yes I got the baptisms from LDS site John 1701, Mary1703  and Benjamin1704, St Oswald Church, Ashbourne but no mother! So frustrating obviously mothers didn't count!

Benjamin snr baptised in same church 1670 son of John again no mother listed, might have to give up on their wives.

Have found a family in Parwich which is 7 miles north of Ashbourne I believe called Tomlynson which could be John's family circa 1640 so could be them!
None of John's daughters are named after his mother Elizabeth though which is unusual for the day.

Did you look at the Josephus Tomlinson I mentioned above.  Different church to the others and the use of a Latin version of Joseph suggests the possibility that particular family may have been Catholic

When you start researching back to the 1600's you have to be very sure of your facts as it's too easy to "claim" people who it may later turn out have no connection to you.

From the Josephus entry it appears as though there may have been 2 Benjamin Tomlinson's in Derbyshire baptising children around the same time

Hi,

These transcripts of the Ashbourne registers, from www.wirksworth.org, may assist as they contain information not included in the Family search transcripts:-

Burials

http://www.wirksworth.org.uk/b48-b.htm

Baptisms

http://www.wirksworth.org.uk/B48-C.htm

As you will see Benjamin was born 1670/71, the year did not end until March of each year.

John Tomlinson was a Glover and his residence was Ashbourne.
