in the hope it would reveal who really is Emma's dad, because it shows up in census with Daniel but he does not seem to have registered her

She was born around 1831 and there were no birth registrations until 1.7.1837 when Civil Reg was introduced.

You need to find Daniel's marriage to Jane to get her maiden name then check for a baptism for Emma under that maiden name

My gut feeling is that Emma was legitimate

J. Jen you have come to the same conclusion as me, that Martha was sarah's child, the only reason i could think of, was why she then put Colemon is because she married this Samuel colemon and therefore put her, in his name thankyou

I think the same goes for "Thomas Pegg" aged 2 months in 1861 - listed as son, but given Thomas and Eliza already have a 17 yr old son called Thomas, that seems unlikely.

Sarah Coleman b c1838 can be followed in later censuses - she's a widow in 1871 with daughters Sarah and Maria, and in 1881 has two sons Thomas 19, and Samuel 17 with her as well as Sarah. The two boys appear to be in the workhouse in 1871, where Thomas is 10, which makes me think he's the same as the 2 month old of 1861.

She also has a 2 yr old Eliza - who her father is I have no idea!

Mabel thankyou, looks like the Martha Pegg/Colemon has been solved, her grandparents taking her in and it looks like her sibling Thomas, sounds like they were nice people
