William Moore and Isabel Loudon
« on: Monday 22 February 16 02:55 GMT (UK) »
Seeking information about William Moore who is believed to have been born in Kircudbrightshire and taught at Tannadice School, Forfarshire, prior to 1842 when he emigrated with his wife and children to NZ. He wrote a well known poem called The Burning of Kildrummy Castle which was taught in schools in Scotland at that time. He married Isabel Loudon or Louden who may have previously been married to Fyffe/Fife as she had a child from a previous marriage named Peter Fyffe/Fife when they arrived in NZ on the Fifeshire, Feb 1st, 1842. He was the first public school teacher in the NZ Company settlement at Nelson, NZ

Hello Jane Sparrow and Welcome to Rootschat .

I  have found an entry on the Scottish 1841 Census for the couple.
They are living at Tannadice, Angus.
Address - Cadjerpath

MOORE   William   M   30   Teacher    Outside Census County
 MOORE   Esobella   F   30       Angus
MOORE   Mary Ogilvy   F   3       Angus
 FYFFE   Peter   M   11       Angus
 FYFFE   Jean   F   14       Angus

No relationships are noted on the 1841 Census unfortunately . The spellings are as transcribed on the Freecen website. William is recorded as not having been born in Angus .

From Looby's 1841 census entry for the family. I can't see a birth or christening for Peter but this look to be Jean Fyfe https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYV9-KFJ

Sure you have this all, but as background to the Loudon side, an old posting here www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/ogilvie/228/ Not sure how accurate this is. The only entry I can see so far is this one in 1803 to different parents https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XYVM-R45  Ages on the 1841 census were meant to be rounded down to the nearest 5 years for everyone over 15 years.
