Henry Sheppard of Bridgwater circa 1817
« on: Monday 22 February 16 21:19 GMT (UK) »
After 10 years and some new information I and renewing my search for the baptism record for one Henry Shep*rd Bridgwater area circa 1817

Any help to break down this 35 year brick wall would be most appreciated.
What we know:
  • ADM 38 7474 Description Book HMS Ajax (4 Feb 1853): gives Henry's age as 34 years, 9 months and his place of birth as Bridgwater Somerset. Trade brought up to sea.
  • Marriage Certificate: Henry Sheppard and Elizabeth Vigers shows Henry's father as James Shepheard seaman.
  • BT 113/143 Registry of Shipping and Seamen: Register of Seamen's Tickets; Register Ticket No 285,312 Henry Shepherd, Born at Bridgwater in the County of Somerset  25th day of May 1817

James does not appear in 1851 and 1841 census. He was a seaman so it is not inconceivable that if still living he was at sea on census days.

Thanks!
Jim

Thanks Carol, this was one of my earlier searches for Henry.  I now have more concrete evidence of his birth date and origins.

Hello
The website below seem to be transcribing records for Bridgwater. I wonder if you contact them whether they would look up for you.

http://bridgwaterparishrecords.co.uk/

I recall the library in Bridgwater used to hold local parish registers. Might be worth asking them to take a look for you

kind wishes

Thanks Sue
I'll drop a line to the folks at the Bridgwater Parish Registers site.  I corresponded with the Bridgwater library a very long time ago (1976) at that time they were unable to locate Henry in their records.  Worth another shot after all this time.

Cheers

It looks to me as though the website at http://bridgwaterparishrecords.co.uk/
is dead.  A whois search of the domain shows that the domain registration expired 18-Apr-2016.

The email link shown on the page bridgwatertimes@gmail.com has bounced.  Wkipedia states: "The Bridgwater Times was a free weekly newspaper, for Bridgwater, Somerset, England. It was owned by Northcliffe Media, part of the Daily Mail and General Trust newsgroup. It closed in 2011".
