where is Neu Karleby in Finland
« on: Wednesday 24 February 16 02:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me :)

I've found the New Zealand Natuaralisation record for

Name: Andrew Erikson
birth date: abt 1858
Age: 26
Birth Place: Neu Karleby
Former Nationality: Finnish
Naturalisation date: 23 Dec 1884

Is anyone able to guide me to where to look for his birth, nothing showing on Family Search or Ancestry and have no idea on where to find Finnish records

Thanks in Advance

thanks for that and it does look more like it, I have found also a brother to Andrew Erikson who came out on the same passage to New Zealand but he was naturalised as well, the only thing I know about him is

Jakob Erikson
naturalised on 20 Sept 1884
from Finland

Hi crab2

Do you have any more info on these 2 men. Were they seaman? Did they start families in New Zealand?

Ian

See the first link given by Kay99. Caption - History.

"Swedish name Nykarleby, which means "New Karleby", and the Finnish name is a Finnicized version of the same".

Yes there are sites and I have had a look but to no avail yet. The records are in Swedish. Having parents names would make it easier.
