Baptism St Hilda's South Shields 1825 help please
« on: Thursday 25 February 16 19:40 GMT (UK) »
Please could anyone help me?

On the IGI, there is the following baptism, in St Hilda's, South Shields:

25/9/1825  Elizabeth DOROTHY d of William + Frances Forrest  SS  Shipwright
(this has come from the PR)

But, I have seen the BTs entry for this baptism, and there is no mention of the middle name of DOROTHY.

So, please, could anyone look up this bap for me in the PR, to see if DOROTHY is actually present (or has it been wrongly transcribed from the word "daughter"?).

Many thanks,

Kit

Had a look at the Bishops Transcript's but no mention of Elizabeth Dorothy there, only Elizabeth.

Durham Records Online have this baptism from the parish records on their free index, the name is simply Elizabeth.

Hi middlesbrough,

Thanks for your kind reply; yes I know that on the BT, there is no mention of Dorothy, but, according to the IGI, it IS there, which is why I was wondering if anyone had access to the original Parish Register, for verification.

Also, thanks too for that JenB - I have also seen that index, and you are right, there is no Dorothy, but I still would like it confirmed by viewing the original PR, if possible.

Thanks,

Kit

As I said in my reply, Durham Records Online have the baptism from the Parish Records, and this confirms the name Elizabeth only.

I have a transcript from the parish record and it does say Elizabeth Dorothy Forrest.

I think you do need for someone to look at that register.

Hi Janis,

Thanks for that - yes, I'd really be grateful if someone could have a quick look at the PR itself (if that's possible).

Thanks again,

Kit

Hi Kit
I have researched this family and found it quite complex.    If you would like further information, please contact me.
Thanks
Chris

I will be going to Tyne and Wear Archives to look something up for another RootsChatter, so if no one beats me to this I will look up the original record of this baptism on microfilm too.  Might not be for another few weeks though - as I will have to fit this in with shifts and family commitments.

By the way, Newcastle library have huge books showing names of people who were baptised or married at St Hilda.  However, these only comprise page after page of name and date lists.  I know what you are after is the original entry and I hope to find this for you when I can next get to the archives.
