Hello,
        A friend of mine has asked me to try and trace his great grandfather. The great grandfather was called John McDowell. John was born c1895, possibly in Liverpool. He was a merchant seaman who travelled around the world. The story in the family was that he 'jumped ship' in Australia, and never returned to the U.K. I can only assume that he started a new life down under. One other thing that may be significant, and that is, he was a fighter, a prize fighter. A boxing ring would be set up and he would fight all comers. Any information about John would be most welcome.
