Yes, I think you are right, it is very rural,I have tried surnames and names of houses, I wonder if they were missed, though I would nt have thought so. I have asked Findmypast for possible help .

Unless they went into the armed services, they should be listed as long as they were born before 1915. They should be listed as the register was used to issue identity cards and ration books.

Were they away from home 26th September 1939 when the forms were collected?

Good luck with FindMyPast,  :-\ they couldn't help with my query about rural addresses not being found.

It might be a case of checking back regularly to see if they turn up at a later date as FindMyPast sort out the errors in transcriptions and open more records for those they identify in the death index.
