Possibly of interest:
https://sok.riksarkivet.se/sjomanshus
search for seamen, some info it appears you need an account to see, there is an 'A. Rosvall'

Might be a red herring, but Could this be his mother, or possibly a sister? Brita Andersdatter (indexed as Brit? Andersson on freebmd), daughter of Anders Johanson, married Andreas Hansen (Andrew Hanson on freebmd) in Hull in 1887:

"Edla" seems likely to be a name from George's side of the family, perhaps a relative involved in raising him?

Thanks for that, Jorose. I guess my friend will look into it. She is very impressed with RootsChat! You may see her posting stuff.

Not for me to say but do you think she may be better off posting on this thread rather than:

I agree, Maureen. But the reason she hasn't posted anything is that she couldn't work out how to get started in Rootschat. I've giving her a quick guide to getting into the site but I don't know how to access an existing thread as I've never had to do that yet - my messages just come up on my email inbox. Perhaps you could give us some instructions.

I have tried to scan the marriage certificate, in case that helps.
The wording under 'remarks ' is
'Bridegroom's name is not the same as his father's. Information is that being a Swede he took the name of Rosvall in Sweden.

I have tried finding his passenger list but to no avail.
He might have worked his passage as a seaman.
According to the remarks it sounds as though he was in Sweden before Canada and therefore a Rosvall there.

I believe he must have been travelling around under a different name ?Anderson/Andersson but George seems consistent, as does the d.o.b. He must have travelled UK to Sweden, then later to Canada, possibly back to the UK first. I was told, within my family, that he had changed his name from Andersson /Andersen to Rosvall because there were too many people called Anderson (maybe for work/business reasons . Edla/Adli is a name likely to have been in his family. It's a pretty elusive trail, so thank you for all the efforts.

Just noticed that George's children are recorded as being Swedish in the column racial or tribal origin in the 1916 census.
Maybe this could be significant but could this mean anything.
