He clearly considered himself Swedish, even though apparently born in Grimsby. We were always told that our grandfather was Swedish. And he chose a clearly Swedish name for his daughter (and son also perhaps), as well as recording their ethnicity as Swedish. It makes me think he must have spent a considerable time there, possibly all of his childhood. I suppose it might be because he was illegitimate or mother died in childbirth and he was brought up by someone else. Could be a reason for changing his name?

You have no clue to perhaps where in Sweden he lived or when Andrew was born.

No knowledge of where in Sweden, unfortunately, and only know of the name Andrew Anderson from the birth certificate.
He must have travelled to Canada/USA around 1903/1905, but not sure under which name, and Rosvall is often wildly mis-spelt.
The birth registered as George Anderson 1876 (Caistor, Lincolnshire),seems to be a possibility-might be worthwhile for me to follow-up.

The thing is that I cannot find a George in Sweden born around 1875 in Grimsby or England in any database. If he did live in Sweden then I think he should be there.
But there again he might have been recorded as being born in Sweden.
I'll keep looking.

Ian

I think it's possible that he was born in Sweden, or was noted as having been born in Sweden. Maybe it was easier to emigrate with a birth registered in England.
It's great that you are carrying out such a persistent search,

No problems. But this is turning into a real challenge.
Is it possible that they lived in the Swedish speaking part of Finland I wonder?

It might be possible.
I can send to the Vital-stats agency in Manitoba, for a birth cert for Edla. This should show father's date of birth and place of birth, which might be a confirmation of details on marriage cert. However it's likely to take a couple of months :(
It looks as though this maybe a long-term search.

It might be a good idea to do that then. What's a couple of months in genealogy terms.

Yes, you're right! Of course!
I will also try to send for his death certificate. It was mentioned in the posting by AMBLY, but at present I am unable to locate it in the Vital-stats agency, maybe using wrong search criteria. AMBLY obviously searched the correct way.
