& who did Richard Hardy marry ?

I take it this is Eleanor's marriage:
Name    John Butcher
 Birth Date     1818
 Age     22
 Spouse's Name     Eleanor Hardy
 Spouse's Birth Date     1817
 Spouse's Age     23
 Event Date     06 Sep 1840
 Event Place     Hilgay, Norfolk, England
 Father's Name    John Butcher
 Spouse's Father's Name    Richard Hardy

The transcript for this wedding from Norfolk FHS website gives Eleanor's middle name as Smith.  Witnesses were George Goodrum and Sarah Riches

Eleanor seems to be Ellen on many censuses - see 1841 when she is with John and has a 3 yr old Christian/Christopher Hardy with her. He has the surname Butcher in 1851, and gives his place of birth as Southery

there are a number of baptisms around 1820 to a Richard & Tamar in Southery (including a Christopher) but their Ellen isn't baptised until 1834

Tamar is buried in Southery in 1823 aged 40. Possible burial for Richard in the same place in April 1830, aged 50.

Since it was an earlier question of yours- "c" is short for the latin "circa". It basically means somewhere around that date. So evidence shows he was born somewhere in the region of, but not necessarily exactly in, 1785. So for example if you have a birth year from a christening or from census or even a death, but can't back it up with other sources, the birth year you have might not have been the actual year he was born in- he may not have been christened right away (the oldest I have was 9 years old!) and the 1841 census rounded ages (although I have many whose ages fluctuated on each census!) and an age on death was only as good as the person informing it and their knowledge might only have been as good as the person themselves when some of our own ancestors didn't seem to know their own ages :) That's when you might use "about" or "circa" with your dates. The majority of my pre-cert ancestors have c[date] for their birth and the full date for their christenings.

Wow! Al the names you've all come up with are right. Southery, Ellen, Christopher but never heard of Tamar.

Thank you so much. I'll speak to my sister in the week and we shall see what we've got. We are going to that part of EA in June so we shall see what we can find.

What a great site this is.  :)
