*COMPLETED* Wartling Baptism Lookup - SARGENT - c. 1799
« on: Saturday 05 March 16 18:04 GMT (UK) »
Hello, hopefully someone can help me with tracking down the baptism of John Sargent.

Information from the 1841, 1851, 1861 & 1871 censuses puts his birth in Wartling around 1799-1801

He was married to Eliza Elphick on 23 May 1819 in Wartling.

I don't have the names of his parents or details of any siblings to go on.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

Looks like he had a Sister;

PHILADELPHIA Sargeant Christened 09 August 1801 Wartling, Sussex
Mother MARY Sargeant
(Familysearch.Org)

She married Benjamin ISTED, 19 January 1827, Wartling, Sussex

I checked Census 1841/1851/1861 to see if Mother Mary was possibly nearby and married.

Trish :)

On another site the baptism for Philadelphia states she is illegitimate but contains no name for her father.

Looking further at the Wartling baptisms I found.....

20.1.1793. Sarah Sargeant, daughter of Mary, illegitimate by Thomas Gilbert.
31.1.1796. Jonathan Seargent, son of Mary, illegitimate by John Sindall.

Possibility for Mary??     Mary Sarjeant, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth, 12.6.1774.

Just a query..... why is this thread headed Completed?  :)
Best wishes HL

Oh dear, Mary :-\ I wonder what the situation was there?

Just a query..... why is this thread headed Completed?  :)

I was trying to go by the sub-forum rules seeing as my original look-up request was fulfilled. Apologies if I misinterpreted them!

Yes indeed, what was going on  ;D

No need to apologise Pefness  :)  but I think if a mod sees the thread is "completed" they may lock it and it's just possible that someone may have some interesting information to add for you at a later date. That's my understanding of "completed" anyway...... but I could be wrong  :)
Best wishes HL
