McKeone Family - Leitrim, Parish Drumreily
« on: Sunday 06 March 16 13:06 GMT (UK) »
Please can anybody help me with finding information on John McKeone b.1821 in County Leitrim, Parish Drumreily and his wife Bridget b.1848 in Leitrim, Parish Drumkerren.  One of their sons Michael b.1873 (my GGF) was born at Carrick On Shannon, County Leitrim, Parish St. Marys.  The earliest record that I have of John and Bridget is in the 1881 census where they are living in Middlesbrough, North Yorkshire with children: Elizabeth b.1867, Mary b.1869, John b.1871, Michael b.1873 d.1939, Barnard 1875, James b.1880 d.1956.  Any information on John and Bridget's ancestry would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

There's a John MacKeon from Cullentragh who married a Bridget Macgowan from Drumkeeran in Innishmagrath RC parish on 4 February 1867, at the time John was a bachelor, occupation  pensioner, the son of Bernard MacKeon a weaver who was deceased. Bridget was a 20 year old spinster, her father John Macgowan was a labourer.

This couple had daughters Eliza Mackeon born 1867 and Mary Mackeon  born 1869, in both cases their address was Drumkeeran Innishmagrath, father John was a pensioner. The couple also had a son Michael MacKeon born in 1873 in Drumkeeran Innishmagrath, this time father John was a labourer and the address was... Middlesborough, England.

Hi Gaffy
That's amazing information.  Where do you get it?  It makes sense that John was a pensioner because he was discharged from the army with asthma after spending 18 years in India. Some of the old folk back in Middlesbrough (I'm in Australia) say that John emigrated from Ireland to Middlesbrough with his brother.  Can you see if John b.1821 had any siblings? And mothers name? Thanks very much.

Phil

Information is more readily information post civil registration, before that you are relying on church records and for the time John was born they are scarce, I'm afraid I couldn't find anything for him or siblings.
