Looking for a connection William Rigden master mariner and Henry Sandford coal merchant.
1800s Cromer Norfolk.
They were Partners in a Brigg (sailboat) the "Commerce" that sailed between Tees-side and Cromer Norfolk.

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

I might have found the relationship between William RIGDEN and Henry SANDFORD,

Marriage

10 Jun 1800
St Mary and Eanswith, Folkestone, Kent
William RIDGEN
Bachelor
Elizabeth SANDFORD
spinster
Both of this parish
By licence
Witnesses:  John and Ann SANDFORD

Interestingly a John SANDFORD married Ann RIGDEN in Folkestone in 1799.

Baptism
St Stephen, Norwich, Norfolk
Wm son of Wm RIGDUM? and Elizabeth his wife late SANDFORD spinster was born 13 Apr 1800 baptized privately 15 May 1800

All of the marriages listed on this page have the "late xxxx spinster" wording, but this baptism was before their marriage.

Then I found this transcription of a will of a Henry SANDFORD of Cromer which mentions amongst other siblings his brother John SANDFORD and his sister Elizabeth RIGDEN :)

http://eastanglianancestors.co.uk/fam5838.html

You can pay to view/download the will at the National Archives,

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D19971

So if William RIDGEN is the son of William and Elizabeth RIGDEN nee SANDFORD and his partner is Henry SANDFORD jnr the son of Henry SANDFORD Snr the writer of the will, then they would be cousins :)

Hope this helps :)

Regards,
Daisy

Thank you Daisy,
I do have a copy of the marriage cert for William R and Elizabeth S June 1980.
But nothing to tie it to my family tree. Your post has helped me get closer and gave me info to work with. It helps with connection to Kent and Norfolk, now I have to get them to Whitby Yorkshire  :)
It is hard to find census that included the male part of my family as they were mostly seafarers, (I did manage to find one ships census for Master William Rigden on board the "Commerce" but these seem to be very rare and hard to find)
The Commerce sail between Cromer and Stocton, and as my 2nd Great grandfather married in Stockton, lost a leg at sea and became a watch maker, later moved to Whitby. Genealogy is great fun and sometimes  frustrating. :)
Thanks again for you help. Peter.

Hi Peter: I've just stumbled across your 2-year old thread...
Elizabeth Rigden nee Sandford was a step cousin of Henry Sandford Junior, who happens to be my great great great grandad! Your William Rigden would've been born in Folkestone, as was Elizabeth,  but I guess you've sussed that now...!?
I could send you my tree if you like?
John sandford
