Help again with Finnish names - calling Jamcat95!
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 09:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,

Linking to the help Jamcat95 gave me a while back on this thread:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=585803.0

I have since found a family tree online that details quite a bit of this family (not the Australian side, but the Finnish side).

They have my Henric's father as we did as Henric Johan Lagerström, and HIS parents as Johan Johansson and Maria Pehrsdotter.  I found a baptism as follows:
Born / Christened   12.12.1821   13.12.1821
Village / Farm   Eknäs   S:gd:
Father   bd:   Johan   Johanss:
Mother       Maria   Pettersdr:  43,11
Child   Henrik Johan

The time, village and farm definitely match up.

My query is though how does one change from a Johansson to a Lagerström?  I have asked the owner of the tree but he has not responded.

I haven't looked yet but Finns sometimes changed their names to the name of their village.
