Randal Churton Harries 1806-1961. When did he emigrate?
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 12:37 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find out when Randal (Randall) Churton Harries emigrated from England to Canada please.

He is on the 1901 UK Census and he was already in Canada when his father William Harries died visiting him in Canada in 1906.   I can't find any record of the emigration date.

Quote "Randal Churton Harries 1806-1961"  Wow, hope I live as long as that  ;)
Ancestry trees show 1878 - 1961 - Attestation Papers, Headstone ect but no immigration date.
Could be mis-transcribed - wonder if he could be R C Harris - age 27 years (a couple of years out) arriving 18 October 1903 on the Pretorian - Liverpool to Quebec. Traveller. Native of Kent  ???  Where was your Randal born  ???

Hi Sandra

Thanks for your quick reply.   Randal Churton Harries was born in Lisgard, Lancashire, so he most likely emigrated from Liverpool.   He was sent out, in disgrace, by his father so could have been crew or passenger.

Hi Sandra

The 1903 date sounds possible.   Could the fact that he was said to be from Kent be an error ???

In case you haven't seen it, here is Randal's entire military file. Free to view after being digitized by Library and Archives Canada. It is very slow to load.

I wouldn't be surprised if he 'fibbed' a bit.   As I said, he was sent to Canada in disgrace and gave his sister as next of kin on his army Attestation Papers, not his mother.

Thanks for your help.

Hi polarbear

I haven't been able to access that yet - I just get a blank screen.   I have his Attestation Papers, but does the reference you gave me contain more than that?
