George and Henry Miles of Somerford
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 14:19 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to these brothers. George was born q2 1882 and Henry Frank in q1 1884. They were 2 of the 13 children of Thomas Miles and Louisa Hitchings of Someford near Malmesbury. The other 11 have all been traced. In 1901 both were living with their parents. In 1911 George was a labourer in Portsmouth.  I have not found Henry Frank in 1911 or any subsequent details for either brother. Any help will be much appreciated.

As George travelled to Portsmouth by 1911, then have you checked out all the possible deaths in Southern England for him e.g.

Deaths March quarter 1957
George Miles age 74    Oxford    6b   961

I know there is a birth for a George Miles in Faringdon in 1882, but 'just in case'

Have you looked for both of them in 1939?
Presumably the family did not have any wills, and neither brother on any marriage or death certificates as witnesses?

How about this one:

Deaths March quarter 1950
Henry F Miles    age  65    Islington      5c 1106

Henry is recorded as Henry not Henry F in 1901 census, so if he drops his middle name you have more options.

Thank you for your reply chempat. I have been told by pm that in 1939 George Frank was in Islington so the 1950 Islington death looks promising. I plan to order the cert in the near future. He and all his siblings were born in Malmesbury area of Wiltshire.

As they are both dead, do not see why that person needed to send information from the 1939 register by pm, as others may have spent time also looking for it, duplicating effort.

In case you did not know, you can do a free basic search on the 1939, which is why I had mentioned it previously:
