Death of Anna Martin, nee Lawson, formerly McCaig
« on: Wednesday 09 March 16 15:41 GMT (UK) »
I would dearly love to find the death of Anna Martin, wife of Archibald James Martin. Archibald died on Church Street, Ballymoney, on Apr 28, 1889. I don't really know if Anna died before or after him but suspect before as she is not mentioned in his will. His daughter Sarah Neill is Executor, as his two sons are living in Massachusetts. At the very least, Anna's death should give her age which would be very helpful to me.
Archibald was a spirit merchant and MAY be the Archibald who was granted a spirit licence in Ballymena in 1872.
Anna is also the mother of 2 McCaig children (Arthur was born 1840 in Kilbride)and Francis Lawson Boyd (born 1828 in Kilbride). I suspect that there will not be an obit for Anna although I would love it if there were as it is difficult to track Anna's life.
Thanks for any help.

Peggy,

If you look at Archie's death certificate it should tell you whether he was married or a widower and from that you'll know which side of his date of death to search for hers.

You're right! I went back and looked at the death certificate and it says widower.

Have you seen this 2nd probate entry from 1911 for unadministered estate of Archibald Martin?

Yes, I have seen that. Sarah, Archibald's daughter had died, and James, her husband, handled things.
Still looking for Annie's death. Her age, among other things, is important and that should be on her death certificate. Then I might be able to narrow down her parentage.
Thanks

When, and where, is the last sighting of Anna? if she died before 1864 there won't be a death certificate.

The last sighting for Anna that I have is the birth of James Bain Martin abt 1849. So she died after 1849 but before 1889, when Archibald Martin died.  Archibald and Annie's daughter Sarah named her daughter Annie Lawson Neill, born in Ballymoney, which is one more clue to Annie's surname. Then Annie Lawson Camac nee Neill, named her second daughter Annie Lawson Camac.
One family tree that I found has Annie Lawson born 1817 but that is impossible if Francis born 1828.
I would love to find out when Annie/Anna Martin died.

Quite a range of possible death dates and unfortunately much of it pre-registration.

I was looking for clues in Ballymoney records and might have found something interesting (or rather it's what I didn't find yet) but need to do some more checking.
