There in fact a few Thomas Purves Johnston's in the time period I was looking at all coming from the Berwick upon Tweed area . . .
Johnston/Manson inter link marriages go back to the Orkney isles . . .
But as you can image the nearest to you are the hardest to find . . .
My grand mother is Eleanor Manson Johnston born 1919 ~ Edinburgh
Father Thomas Purves Johnston born 1893 ~ Berwick upon Tweed . . .
Mother as written a Jane Cockburn that is fact as stated on marriage cert . . .
But between both message's I have received . . .
My confusion here is . . .
What I believed to be my great gran cannot be as my great gran mother died was Eleanor was just 8 years old . . .
And a mix up of who was who to me as a small child of then Johnston's and Shaw's . . .
So my next message up will be all the information I have and confirmed . . .
The Shaw's I also have an interest in . . .
Just to find from cerip23 that they traveled to USA/Canada which explains why I could never find them after birth and my Journey to find goes on . . .
As I am not written any true dates here . . .

As to the Purves name no idea at all . . .
Don't you just hate to find you have a family that is not rooted to just one spot . . .
Scotland people is just great but because there is so much movement to this family I'm at a loss to whose certificate I should be claiming once you have a group of brothers all having children with the same name . . .
Information I have is both written and on disk . . .
But after finding the Shaw's link to Canada I think I may be beating a dead trail to the Johnston's also . . .
So glad I joined here where there seems to be a genuine sense of wiliness to help . . .
Looking forward to putting what I know to be fact and seeing where all this is leading me . . .
