1715 Will of William Thurlby - deciphering help, please
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 09:12 GMT (UK) »
I have here two extracts from a 1715 Will - I have managed most of it (or at least I think I have)  I am a bit stuck on what Robert got.  I think he got a bay filley and a paire of ?????

As for daughter Elizabeth I think she got a pair of candlesticks and a pewter tankard plus the biggest something and is it a brandreth?

Help please!

Not sure Ruskie.  I wondered if it said "sauc-pann".  I suppose it could be brass-pann.  That looks possible.

Whenever I find an old document, I am always cock a hoop until then I realise I cant blummin read it..........

It's certainly "Brass pann" but what comes next is difficult to read without the start of the following line. It looks like "brandee*" and then a possible hyphen. Brandy bowl perhaps.

I'm still looking at the "paire of.....”

Ahhh, now that would fit, thanks Steve.  He left other children "one lamb" "one cow" etc (he was a husbandman).  Yes that makes perfect sense, thank you.

I think after brass-pann it says "and the brandreth".  Unfortunately, the first bit of each word at the beginning of the line has not copied.

Several on-line dictionaries give this as a meaning for 'brandreth' -
an iron tripod or trivet placed over a fire.
