Looking for John Mcdowell
« on: Sunday 13 March 16 21:35 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm searching for the last resting place of John McDowell. John was born in Liverpool in 1876. He served in the merchant navy as a fireman/stoker, and I can trace him up to c1922. From then on, he disappears. The story was that he jumped ship and was never heard of again. He left behind a wife and children. His wife died in the mid nineteen- forties and, with John being about the same age, I'm looking for men who died around that time. I've searched through most records and they are few and far between. But, there is one in Dublin, a John McDowell 1876-1942. I would greatly appreciate any assistance in finding out something about this particular John. Could this be my man?
               Mnay Thanks

Can you give a bit more information on him, middle name or initial (exact DOB, maybe the name of his parents/wife.
Do you have him on any census or ships crew lists

The name is a fairly common one so any extra details you can provide will assist in our searches.

if you do get an address you may be able to follow him up on the register of electors

Cross referencing between the register of electors and address box for Glasnevin index the man who died in 1942 appears to be from Abbeyfield
