Professor Alfie Mallard
« on: Thursday 17 March 16 21:25 GMT (UK) »
Alf Mallard was introduced to bayonet fencing in 1932 as a Marine and to foil on a PE course in 1938. He was at the Naval PT School alongside Bob Anderson for 2 years after the war and then he was 3 years in Plymouth teaching at the Naval College.

He was in the Marines and was a Professor of Fencing.

Does anyone have any leads on his army career?

There are a number of articles about him if you use Google.  What is your interest in him?

If you are a descendant and want to know about his WW2 service you need to read the following

Does anyone have any leads on his army career?
Was he EVER in the Army?        Did he spend his entire career in the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines?

Just to clarify during WW2 Royal Marines were a branch of the Royal Navy. Commando's were a branch of the Army. When they amalgamated together they came under the Royal Navy and still do today.

Hi All,

Thanks for the interest. He was our PE teacher in the 1950s and 1960s and the only info we have on him is what was given during my study for a history of the school in Folkestone, Kent.
His wife Irene was on the Olympic Fencing Squad. I only know that he left the Marines as a Sgt. I don't know whether he was in the army or not.

WW2 records are as shown in the link in my earlier reply

If he was married there may be living descendants of that marriage.

He was born in 1913 and there is a 1983 death in Kent and a possible marriage in 1947

His wife died in 1981

You will note that the marriage entry shows 2 surnames for his wife as she was previously married.  The "B" surname was her birth surname and if you check for Mallard births using that maiden name there is one possibility in 1952
