Thank you Cyril --- I didn't find her death but I certainly found an article of interest!

Seems all was not well between Mary Costigan and her daughter Mary Dowling! I wondered why they were no longer together in 1911 and Mary Costigan was living with her son. Now I know!

It will put a bit of interest into the family history story.

Thank you very much once again!

Following on from a newspaper article which Cyril kindly alerted me to -- I have checked the petty sessions records for Mary Costigan.

3 results came up - 2 of these refer to her bringing cases against members of probably, her own family - getting her daughter, Mary Dowling out of her (Mary Costigan's) house.
Having a John Costigan committed as a Lunatic for threatening her.

There is a 3rd time in 1914, against a person for stealing from her (he doesn't seem to be related!)

So -- she was still alive in 1914.
I am beginning to think that I can't find her death as she may have been buried in a field - by disgruntled members of her family - and her death not registered at all!

Oh sorry I thought that was a different woman.
Did you see her son listed for not paying his rates?

Hi Sinann -- I am not surprised at the confusion - there are too many 'Marys'.

No - I haven't seen her son listed for not paying his rates. I will look later.
This is brilliant - adds 'colour' to a family history story.
Not so sure that my husband and his siblings will be too happy about all the skeletons in the family cupboard being revealed though!

Thank you so much for the tip.

Just to say -- I have now found the article re non payment of rates, thank you -- and whilst looking, found another one for having no dog licence!

Quite a family.

After 1901 - it was either the mother or the son, Denis - who were appearing at Petty Sessions for one reason or another. I have also confirmed that the John Costigan who threatened Mary Costigan (nee Ferns) - (and she brought him to court )- was her son. He was the one who the Court committed to a Lunatic Asylum!

So Mary Costigan chucked a daughter and the daughter's children out for not paying her any rent - and also effectively had her son committed to an asylum.

Very, very interesting!
