1841 census lookup - Painter family
« on: Tuesday 22 March 16 07:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Would someone be kind enough to  lookup a 1841 census for me, please?

Broad Eye, St Mary, Stafford

Joseph Painter, b1811
Sarah, b1811
Ann, b1829
Isabella, b1832
John, b1840

I would like to know if there is an occupation for Joseph Painter recorded.  As it may/may not help me to identify which of the Joseph Painter's is mine out of the two death records.

Joseph (1841) or (1880).  Because I have Sarah living in Broad Eye as a Shoe Binder and a Widow in the 1851 census.  But also there is a Joseph Painter in the 1851 census who is a Cordwainer on Eastgate Street with Caroline Bailey, who he married in 1846.

This Joseph lives until 1880 and dies in the workhouse as a Widower/Shoe Maker.

I suspect it's the Joseph who died in 1841.

Many thanks,
Stuart

1851 Broad Eye has
Sarah 44 wid
Isabella 17
Joseph 7
John 2

I would think that makes Joseph Cook Painter most likely,  unless he was not the father of John age 2.

Thank you Kay for the info on the occupation.

Thank you Rosie for the two updates.

And thank you Mosie for the record for Joseph in 1850.

Well it may well be Joseph Cook Painter, as his mother was Elizabeth Cooke.
