Henry Mower and Son Henry William Mower
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 12:06 GMT (UK) »
I have drawn a blank looking for these two relatives .
Henry Mower abt 1858 and his son Henry William Mower abt 1884

In July 1881 22-year-old Henry Mower a packing case maker from Middlesex ,England married Mary Ann Doyle . They married in Shadwell, Henrys father was John Mower a Police Constable and Marys Father was James Doyle .
They had a son Henry William in 1884 they lived at no 6 ship street , I am guessing there was a pub near called the ship, again in Middlesex maybe Shadwell, West Ham, Stepney not sure.
I Can trace Mary Ann but Young Henry William and His father have not left a trace .
Can people just disappear , or maybe I am looking so hard I am missing what is under my nose.
But it's driving me nuts.

Any help would be fantastic.

Cheers

Have you got Henry William's birth cert?  It seems likely that his would be the one registered in mar qtr of 1884 in St George in the East (1c 424).  The would give you another reference to his father's name and profession - perhaps Henry senior has changed job, or is recorded with a slightly different name etc.

I am also struggling to find Henry Mower on a census with a father called John Mower - have you managed to trace his origins to see whether what he said on the marriage cert was accurate?

On the 1881 census, there is a john Mower who is a police constable, born in Elmsett, Suffolk in c. 1838.  He is living in Hillingdon with his wife Sophia

Is your Mary Ann Doyle the one down in 1881 as a 24 yr old seamstress b St George in the East, appearing with widowed mother Ann at 3 Lavender Place, Pennington St, St Georges East?  Ref is RG11/457/101/20.

Has Henry been traced at all before marriage - and if not how do you know he was from Middlesex?

Has the marriage witness Margaret Barnes been traced? (The other witness, S.T. James, appears to have been a regular so was probably church warden or similar).
