This is fantastic ,
There were two Mary Ann Doyle all along
The Family always thought Joseph Jones was involved I am not sure they Know that Mary Ann Married him .
That is great news , I think it will take me a while to get it all clear in my head thank you all so much .
I wonder why my Great Grandmother changed her name to Sarah Ann Elizabeth Doyle
Can you just confirm who the other children of Mary Ann Doyle were ? Where do you get all your information from so quickly ?
My poor Aunt has been working on this for years
At least, she knows her Grandmother was living with Joseph and her Mother .

I hope that means she wasn't the Mary Ann Doyle who spent 3 Months in wormwood Scrubs for stealing a bar of soap

I wish you all a happy Easter.

Hi
I think the Eliza Doyle death in 1882 could be the Eliza in Lavender Place in 1881. But I can see now that roughly fits the Eliza birth reg in Dec 1879, St George in the East. Not the 1877 one with Mary Ann as a mother. Maybe it was a different Mary Ann, I don't know. How many can there be?
Your Mary could have had another Eliza with Mr Mower, even if an earlier daughter with the same name had died. Perhaps Henry wanted to call her that. It's a bit strange that she was in the workhouse, deserted by husband, and then seemingly had more children by him. He must have come back. I can't see any sign of Henry at all. And unfortunately I haven't found a settlement exam for Mary Mower in St George in the East in 1883. Maybe if she had stayed in the workhouse a little longer than she did there might have been one. Would have been interesting to see what details she gave about her husband.
John

Maybe he got back with her because she was pregnant with Henry his first son the timing could be right as he was born in 1884.
But what happen to Henry Mower senior ????

My Aunt still can't work out how Catherine would later in life call herself Sarah Ann Elizabeth.
She was never known as anything else in the family that are still alive.

thank you for all your interest

1891 she is in Canning Town
Parish West Ham
piece 1326 folio 91 page 29
Joseph Jones Head 36 Watchman (as on marriage)
Mary A Jones Wife 33, born London St Georges
Ann Doyle Mother 67 St Georges
Catherine Jones Daughter 10 St Georges

Interesting to note that Joseph Jones is enumerated on the census as being 'Part Blind'  (must not have hindered his work as a Watchman at the port though!)  He gives his place of birth as Cubitt Town - info about Cubitt Town here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cubitt_Town

As a bit of extra background info, I think that this is Joseph with his family in 1861:

Pottery Cottages, North Ferry Road, No 1.
Poplar

Edward Jones  Head  Mar  41  Boiler Maker  bn Lancaster Liverpool
Mary Jones  wife  Mar  36  bn Scotland, Peterhead
Joseph Jones  son  5  bn Middlesex, Poplar
Alexander Jones  son  2  bn Kent, Sheerness
Jannet ?Rattie  m in l?  60  bn SCotland, Peterhead

Alexander Jones and his wife were the witnesses at Joseph and Mary Ann's marriage.

Think this is Joseph's baptism:

St Anne's, Limehouse
bap June 29 1856,  born 18 Feb 1856  to Edward and Rattie Jones, abode Millwall, profession Boiler maker

Edward and Mary Jones with daughter Mary can be found using this reference HO107; Piece: 1556; Folio: 859; Page: 12 on the 1851 census

1861 St.George in the East
James Doyle  1807  dock labourer  Ireland
Ann Doyle  wife  1818  tailoress  St.George in East
Henry Doyle  son  1852     St.George
Margaret Doyle  dau  1854     St.George
Mary Ann Doyle  dau  1858      St.George

Margaret Doyle married Louis William Barnes in 1876, so is probably Mary Ann's marriage witness.
