Lieutenant Chivers
« on: Wednesday 23 March 16 21:39 GMT (UK) »
I'm researching my father's WW1 history and would like to know more about his brother-in-arms....Lieutenant Chivers of the Histon Jam Makers family. They served together in the Royal Artillery and I believe Lt. Chivers was married to a lady called Dorothy. Does anyone know more details of Lt. Chivers please?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

We would need the first name of Lt Chivers

There is a lot of information on this family if you use Google including the names of the father and his sons.  Here's just one of several links

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chivers_and_Sons

You can use freebmd to find which son married somebody called Dorothy  www.freebmd.org.uk

The only Chivers marriage to a Dorothy in Cambridge was in 1939 but there are plenty of other Chivers marriages in other counties to a Dorothy so you need to find his christian name

If he served in WW1 he could have been born 1880's to 1890's

Have you checked the 1911 census?

The London Gazette shows a John Stanley Chivers being made a probationary Lt. RFA Dec. 1915 (E. Lancs. Howitzer Bde.).
He appears to be the one born Chesterton Cambs. 1892.
I think he married a Mary G Bird in Cambs. 1919.
He may be the Stanley Chivers that took over from his father John after the war.
Edit:
1911 census says he is.

Info:
42nd Division from pre-war . Originally designated 4th East Lancs Howitzer Brigade, and armed with 4 5-inch Hows. Rearmed with 4.5-inch Hows in 1916 after withdrawal from Gallipoli. Broken up 26/12/1916.

ring any bells?
