Help for a novice
« on: Friday 25 March 16 20:31 GMT (UK) »
Finding anything is proving difficult owing to the fact I was adopted. However, have a copy of my original birth certificate and from that found out mothers birth year and the year she married. I was born in 1949 at 72 Delaunys Rd, Crumpsall, Manchester. Apparently this address was once the workhouse, but I guess that by the time I was born it was part of Crumpsall Hospital. My birth mothers name was Sadie McCormack nee Parkinson. The strange thing is on the 1939 census it shows also Sadie and or Michelle Pillows / Pillians. Anyone any ideas or has anyone had search results like this.
Any help and advice would be very appreciated.

Have you checked the actual image or are you just going by the transcript? It might indicate that she married again - the register was updated until 1991. It wasn't a one night snapshot like a census. On the actual image there is often a date relating to later amendments which might give a clue.

There are these two marriages

Marriages Sep 1945

Parkinson    Sadie    McCormack
Manchester    8d   906

Marriages Mar 1951
PARKINSON    Sadie    PILIANS
Liverpool S.    10d   1162

They don't really make sense though as if she married a McCormack in 1945, she should have remarried as Sadie McCormack, not Parkinson.

I'm afraid that as she is shown on the 1939 register, it must mean that she has since died.

She may have reverted to her maiden name for second marriage. I don't think there is any legal reason for a widow or divorcee to use their first married name when they marry a second time.
