In search of a certificate
« on: Saturday 26 March 16 17:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi.
I have for some time been searching for a death certificate without any luck.
The person's name is Amalia or Amelie or Amelia Rapti (s) - Kyriazi (s). She was born in Greece in 1925. The period I am searching is 2008-2016 and the place of death is probably Greece.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Eleanna

Hi Eleanna,

 ;D Welcome to RootsChat  ;D

I doubt that a death certificate for that time period is something that you could personally search for.  Greece is similar to other European countries in that each community holds their own records so you would need to contact the specific community where the death took place to have a search done.  You may also find that such recent records are closed to the general public.

Hi Debra,

Thank you for your response. I am aware of what you're saying. It's just that I have been visiting authorities and local registry offices for about two years and have not found anything. Additionally, in my papers she is written down as the mother. Despite this, authorities here in Greece are not willing to help me find her whereabouts. If she is alive she will be 91 this year, so there is a possibility that she is not alive anymore. As a result, I was advised to search for a death certificate online.

Could she have remarried and either be living, or have died, under a different name?

I don't think she remarried after the age of 83 or so, when i still knew her whereabouts. I suppose she could have been buried under another name, but then how can one go about finding that in official records. Unless of course one knows the new name. Anyway, thanks for your post.
