In 1841 the Joseph in Leicestershire is living with Thomas Brass with wife Rachel and child Esther(edit plus William aged?).  A tree on Anc lists Thomas born 1801 Gainforth, Durham as the brother of Joseph?

In 1861 Thomas and family were living in Escombe Durham with the surname transcribed as Bruss

Edit - Better 1861 transcription on Family Search https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7CR-P3W

There is a baptism on  FreeREG of a Thomas Brass at St Mary Gainford on 3 May 1801 (Birth date 21 Jan 1801)  Parents Thomas Brass and Ann Cammin.

The baptism of Joseph Thompson Brass at Denton on 16 Apr 1808 lists him as the ninth child of the same parents
