Street names
« on: Wednesday 30 March 16 19:37 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone, haven't been on here in a while and as usual i'm stuck on finding something in my research. Can anyone help? I have a map of old Newcastle upon tyne dated 1895 and i'm looking for a couple of street names in the Byker/St Peters area. Unfortunately they aren't on this map I used to have a website that gave old street names and their general whereabouts but I've changed computers and lost the site. The street names i'm looking for are Percy Street, Bottle House Row and Shield Street. Any help will be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi Japeflakes no sorry it isn't. That Percy Street is in the city centre the one i'm after is in Byker, a suburb of Newcastle. My Percy Street is quoted in the 1871 census (RG10/5107). I have a map of the area dated 1895 and it doesn't show the street just wondered if anyone had or knew of where the was a map that showed it. Thanks for your help.

There is a Bottle House Street, St. Peter's, at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/427194/563561/13/100511 you will have to zoom out.

According to the 1871 Description on the Enumeration District all the streets are in St. Peter's Quay, as I posted. You can see the area on the map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/102346485#zoom=5&lat=6779&lon=14659&layers=BT but the streets are not named.
There ia a later map at http://maps.nls.uk/view/101099387#zoom=4&lat=2768&lon=2737&layers=BT
Percy Street is at RG10 Piece 5107 Folio 90  Page 1
