Marriage cert changed 45yrs later!
« on: Thursday 31 March 16 18:58 BST (UK) »
Ok so i'm after thoughts as to why!
Emma Ingleton married James Parkin on 13/2/1886 in Wharfdale
on 28/4/1931 James & Emma went back & changed the details on the certificate
changing Emma's name from "Ingleton" to "Haylett" & her age from 21 to 19.
a note corroborating this was taken from Rachel Rebecca Hirst, aunt of Emma.
Emma was actually born Emma Haylett 1866 Besthorpe Norfolk to Thomas Haylett & Caroline Perfect.
Turns out Caroline wasn't so perfect & had taken up & bigamously married Walter B Butters!(Who is probably Emma's father)  Walter was the illegitimate child of Elizabeth Butters whom eventually married Randall Eagling... the Eagling name morphed into Ingleton (Emma was Illiterate)

So why change it 45 years later, my 1st thought was for an inheritance but i can't find anything. i presume that would be for Thomas Haylett 1837 Besthorpe (child of Avis Garrard & John Howes)
but as i said i can't see anything.

Have you got a copy of the original certificate?   and secondly,  have you got a copy of the amended certificate?

Did they have any children?

Hi a copy certificate was obtained in 1998, it looks like the amendment was added to the original, the registrar of the original marriage was in attendance at the time of the 1931 amendment. If that makes sense?
Emma & James had 5 children.

Have you seen the birth certs for all the children?

Is there a discrepancy on the birth cert  with the mothers maiden name?

Sorry I forgot to add that's how we know she was a Butters as on the children's birth certificates she lists that as her maiden name.
Very confusing behaviour!
