You seem to have posted a lot of conflicting details on your family  :-\ Do you have your father's birth certificate?

GILLIAND (GILLILAND) and TURBITT
"I believe they had a daughter Ada who become my grand mother  The Place is ballybay Monaghan Ireland. My Father was Born william James Brown I think he was born 1927 and From there I havent a clue until he went to Egypt in World war 2."
" looking for information on a david brown born in ballybay not sure of year (i think) mother is ada Gilliland father is william brown they are my great grandparents they had 2 daughters kathleen or margaret and 5 sons david my grandfather george, billy, bob and alex "
"my father william james was the eldest  born 7th october 1923 i have a marion humphries listed on my dads death cert as his mum but cant find her."

browns/ humphries from ballybay
"william brown who married ada gilliland they had 3 children one who was a james david who was my grandfather he married a marion humphries im trying to find out if marion died in childbirth as she is my dads natural mother james went on to re marry"

So, why do you now say that your grandparents were David Brown & Ada Gilliland?

Hi there,

Your Dad's birth certificate should give you the names of his parents.   Everyone here at RChat was once new to RChat, and also was once new to family history.

You have given us TWO different sets of parents.   Can you please confirm, from his birth certificate which is the correct information :

Were your Dad's parents listed as David BROWN and Ada GILILAND
or
Were your Dad's parents listed as James David BROWN and Marion HUMPHRIES.

and

Was your Dad born 7 October 1923
or
Was your Dad born in 1927

BROWN is a very very popular surname so you will need to be very careful with each new piece of information that you find, afterall, it may belong to someone else's BROWN family, but you are right to start with your parents and work back from there.

You may find that the information on his birth certificate will be more reliable than the information on his death certificate.

Cheers,  JM
