Mary Fraser Buchanan b.1861 Scotland
« on: Friday 01 April 16 06:58 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the birth of Mary Fraser Buchanan, b.1861 Grangemouth, Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland.
According to her marriage certificate of 1884, her father was Robert Buchanan, custom house officer, deceased.
In 1881 she was living in Bootle with her aunt Helen Scott, captain's wife, b.1845 Scotland.
I've looked all through the records in Scotland's People but can't find her. Any help would be much appreciated.

There a family tree on Anc that includes a Mary Buchanan born  29 April 1860 in Falkirk and it also includes her birth cert with father Robert Buchanan -  Customs Officer and mother Margaret Rankine

Kay

Edit In 1861 I think she is listed as a visitor in Falkirk living with Margaret Rankine age 24 b Falkirk and her parents William and Mary and her siblings.  Looking at the online tree the family may have been in Dublin in 1871.

The Helen Scott she was living with in 1881 fits well with the sibling of her mother Helen Rankine listed in 1861 as born Falkirk 1845

In the Falkirk Herald on 23 January 1869

Customs prosecution- The many friends in Grangemouth and neighbourhood of Mr Robert Buchanan of Dublin, will be glad to learn that, as was expected, he is approving himself in his new sphere of duty a most successful and intelligent officer.   It goes on to describe his successes as examining officer of Customs

Falkirk Herald on 10 March 1877 death announcement of William Buchanan age 8 at Silver Street Glasgow youngest son of the late Robert Buchanan  Customs Officer Derry

Thanks Kay. I've now found William Buchanan in 1861, described as a coal agent. Grieve must be a Scottish word for some sort of dealer.
I now have a full picture of that side of the family.
