Kensington, Liverpool - Churches
« on: Friday 01 April 16 12:30 BST (UK) »
Hi

My grandmother was born (1910) and grew up in Tilloston Street in Kensington, Liverpool.  Infact she lived there for a large part of her adult life too.  She often mentioned going to church two or three times on a Sunday.  Can anyone tell me what Church of England church would be closest to Tillston Street,  I can't find her baptism record online.

Many thanks.

Have you looked on Lancashirebmd.org.uk?
The entries there often mention which church.

You can also look here:

It could be  St Jude's Church, (St Jude the Apostle) Hardwick street, built 1831, restored 1881-97 and 1901. You can see Tilloston Street and St. Jude's Church on this map https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/336178/390648/12/100674 (you will have to zoom out 3 times to see the detail)

St Mary's Edge Hill is also nearby, now called All Saints. Liverpool C of E and RC Baptisms on Ancestry tend to finish at 1906 so you would need to get the baptism from the Liverpool Record Office.

Tillotson Street was located between Hall Lane and Mount Vernon Street and is shown on these maps. If you put your cursor over the red buildings it will tell you the name of the churches:-

Thanks everyone for all of the tips.  I'm following up all.  St. Jude's baptism records were on line.  I went through them yesterday but my Nan and her siblings were not there so at least I can rule that one out.  :)
