Yes, that's fine, Aghadowey. I just wondered whether they were the same family as they seem to be McDonald in Liverpool perhaps all the time.

James McDonnell and Hanoria Doherty 24th July 1893 Castlerea district.

Hi Aghadowey, thanks for the reply.

Heywood, with regards to place names Ballindrimley and Cloondahara:
Again, I have made an assumption that since Katie(my Grandmother) is his only child from his marriage to Annie (Doherty?),and since she is living, now married, in his hometown of Castlerea, that where ever she is, he is not too far away. That accepted, there is a court case where Katie's husband is suing a neighbouring farmer for animal trespass at Cloondahara and more seriously another court case in 1935/1936 where a local landlord, Patrick Crean of Main Street, Castlereagh obtains a decree for possession (eviction)  in relation to a property  let by him to Katie's husband in Ballindrimley.

Paul.

Heywood, the marriage record looks like a strong possibility.
Thanks.
Paul.

I am assuming that Ballindrimley is Ballindrumlea in censuses so perhaps, as I said, Annie was from there.

You will be able to send off for the marriage certificate to find out more details.

Hi heywood. Thanks for all your help. I will get a photocopy of the marriage cert the next time I am in Dublin. It is much cheaper than getting the GRO in Roscommon to send me one, and contains the same info.

Does anyone with local Castlerea knowledge know if Ballindrimley and Ballindrumlea are the same or different places?

Thanks again.
Paul.

I would say it is if you check with maps.

You can use this site to locate townlands on a map-

Thanks Aghadowey.

I notice when I 'drill down' into some of the links provided in the map, for example  Logainm.ie ,this townland is known as both Ballindrumlea and Ballindrimley (and quite a few more variations on a theme), thereby confirming heywood's assertion.
Also I notice that one of the bordering townlands is called Cloonarragh, which is probably the correct name/spelling of the townland printed as Cloondahara in the newspaper article I found.

Thanks again.
Paul.
