Bishops Cleeve churchyard
« on: Monday 04 April 16 16:47 BST (UK) »
There is a memorial about 45m south of the church to members of the Barnes family. Online sources suggest it is to John Barnes (d1728) and his son John Barnes (d1749) who owned land in Woodmancote, but they also suggest that other members of the family are mentioned.

I know that John (sr) had children John, Benjamin and Hannah with his wife Hannah; and that John (jr) had no children with his wife Penelope. They were, however, Baptists, so I am surprised to find a memorial to them in a C of E churchyard.

Does anyone have access to the monumental inscriptions in the churchyard, so that they could let me know any further details on the stone? I have written to the church but have not yet had a reply.

Few Baptist churches had graveyards. So most people in that era would be buried at their local parish Church regardless of what denomination they usually worshipped at.

Farrington - Essex
Boniface - West Sussex

Thanks very much for the replies and links. No obvious sign of them but I'll keep looking.

Here is the memorial; you can almost read it!
