Hi again, ok can see possibly why Robert jnr was referred to as Grandson, as Bible/Tree only refers back to Samuel / Sarah in the 1891/1901 Census, can you locate when both Robert and Ruth Annie's deaths were?

PS one or all of those birth registrations would possibly be an interesting purchase?!

We found Robert Kendricks british passport while cleaning and it has an immigration stamp matching the above date.

I also got some other info his WW2 service

Robert Kendrick served with the NMR in WW2, first as a Sergeant where he was Mentioned in Despatches as part of the 3rd S.A. Armoured Car Regiment (an offspring of the NMR) for the period June 1941 to February 1943 (page 272 of the NMR history by E Goetzsche). He was again Mentioned in Despatches as part of the NMR/SAAF Composite Regiment for service in Italy – on this occasion he had been commissioned as a Lieutenant.

I am slowly building a full picture and will keep you updated.

I wonder if Robert son of Robert was maybe born pre marriage

There is this birth reg
FreeBMD
Robert James
mother's maiden name James
Sept qtr 1917
Toxteth Park Lancashire
8b 299

also wonder if Robert Lang kendrick served in the armes forces in WW1??

Do you have any further information?

Suz

I found the marriage registry for Robert and Ruth in 1918 so their son was born out of wedlock in 1916 which would explain the late birth registration. I also found a birth registration for a robert k james in west derby for 1916. I wonder if they are not one and the same.

I would think as Roberts d.o.b. was 2 Feb  this birth reg is most likely to be his . Probably the late registration (1929) is a reregistration (when parents marry after the birth of the child this has to be done to issue a new birth cert in father's name) his parents took their time to have father's name on certificate - maybe the intended move to South Africa prompted them .

That sound about right. I find it rather funny that they did it to leave and I am now looking into this in order for my Father in law and Mother in law(Mother was British) to get their UK passports by Descent and My wife and I to get our ancestral visas so that we can return to the UK
