I'm not sure why it says England, but he was definitely born Antigua - the marriage certificate in 1878 in South Australia gives that as his birth place.  I think he hid his roots for some reason.  Probably a lot of racism in Queensland? 

Very often you will find information on death certificates is inaccurate, for the obvious reason that the deceased isn't available to correct it!  The information would have been provided to registrar after the death to the best of the informant's ability, and therefore its quality is dependent on who the informant was and how much they knew about the deceased.  It does not necessarily indicate that the deceased concealed the truth in his lifetime.
