I am looking for information regarding my Grandfather John McGann. He was born 1985 in Newcastle, Forgney, County Longford, Ireland. He left in 1913 to join the Irish Guards with whom he stayed until 1935. He died in Jaipur, India in 1938.

Hello John,
What kind of information are you looking for? This could well be him in 1901 with his family.

Thank you for your reply. Yes that's him. I have a reasonable amount of information on him(military records etc) but he was estranged from his family because he joined the British Army. I am struggling to get back more than one generation from Henry and Margaret.

Hi John,
Do you have Henry and Margaret's marriage certificate? This would give you their fathers' names.
This looks likely

That's great thank you. I will get on to it. A slow process as I live in New Zealand now.

Unfortunately the marriage is too late for the Parish records.

This looks more like the parish

I am looking for a possible baptism for Henry. I will post if I find one.

If you look here - you will have to lighten it though
http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635251#page/88/mode/1up
There is a baptism 21 February 1858 for Henry McGann son of John and Catherine - possibly Malin
The sponsors are William Malin/ Nealin
and Cath Kenny.
It is difficult to decipher! I got it first through Ancestry and then looked it up here for you which is a free site. It might not be him at all but it is right area. Sadly, it doesn't show the townland for the family.
