Barnes Family Cheltenham. Lost Census 1891.
« on: Sunday 10 April 16 07:47 BST (UK) »
Hi, I seem to have hit a brick wall with my ancestor William Charles Barnes and his family in 1891.He was a Non Domestic Gardener,born in Twinning, Gloucestershire and I can trace him in all the Censuses from 1861 to 1911 bar the 1891 Census.This particular Census would clear up many mysteries and I have spent many hours looking for him.

He spent most of his early life travelling around; Barnwood,Fairford, Allesley,Alcester- he was living in Alcester in 1884, when Ada Mary Barnes was born and then at some point after that settled in Cheltenham for good.

I think I would be looking for the following in that Census;
William Charles Barnes. ND Gardener Born 1847
Elizabeth Anne Barnes.Wife/Housekeeper/Greengrocer? Born 1849
Alfred Ernest Barnes.Labourer/Upholsterer/Cabinet Maker? Born 1874
Ada Mary Barnes Born Alcester 1884
Maud Alice Barnes Born Cheltenham 1888.

I am not asking anyone to do the hard work for me but I have looked and looked to no avail and I am wondering if I am missing something obvious.

Many thanks,

Barnsey

Not what you've asked for, but Gloucestershire BMD shows that the child born in Cheltenham in 1888 was registered as Irene Alice Maud Barnes, mother's maiden name Whitfield.

Irene Alice Maud Barnes, aged 11,  was buried in Cheltenham on 6 October 1899. The family's address at the time was 3 Birdlip Place, Bath Rd.

You may find the family mis-transcribed as Burner(or Burnes).William and Elizabeth are with Alfred(17) Ada(7) and Irene(2)
