My mother Jean Totten was born in or around Pomeroy Co Tyrone in 1904/1905 She had has one sister Anne /Annie & 4 brothers Thomas/Tom,   James William/Bill.   Robert/Bobby. The fourth one i can't remember. I believe my Mothers Father might have been called Joseph & they were farmers around Pomeroy. I would be very interested if any one has any information  of them

Are you sure about your mother's age? That 1911 census entry lists 2 children but no daughter Jane/Jean/Jeannie- and I can't see her anywhere else in 1911.

Added- the couple in the 1911 census seem to be Joseph Totton & Sarah Jane Gilkinson who married 14 Mar.1904 Cookstown district.

Since this couple later had a son Henry I'm posting details of 3 sons-
William Tutton born 21 Feb.1905 Cookstown district
Thomas Tutton born 20 Apr.1906   "
Henry Tutton born 15 Sept.1912   "

Here's Joseph in 1901 with widowed mother-

Think I've found them under TUTTON- note mother born Co. Donegal and son Henry born America:

Same family in 1901 but all shown as born Tyrone:

Relatives?

You can see from the map that Lime Hill townland is just north of the centre of Pomeroy- note that there are 2 'sub-townlands' listed and it might be a good idea to use those place names also when searching in case they lived in those areas of Lime Hill. The site gives a link to Griffith's Valuation and maps there might help to pinpoint where they lived. Henry Tutton was leasing approx. 25 acres.

PRONI, Belfast also have the Valuation Revision Books online which follow properties from the printed version of Griffith's until c1930.

Hello.
what a lovely surprise to find all the information you have so kindly sent me, thank you so much
I have found details of all Mothers brothers and sisters and the district they lived and even that my Mother was called Jane & not Jean. I am still sorting out who is who in relation to the other Tottens you supplied information about & it is all very interesting
I intend to visit the place my Mother was born in Pomeroy soon and your information has made it so much easier for me as I really didn't know where to start
What a wonderful site RootsChat .com is
Kind Regards
