Navigator - F/O Fulliott Victor Polhill Turner RAFVR (130700), aged 28, of St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex. Buried Hellingly Cemetery, Sussex.

Fulliott Turner was born on 29th October 1914, he was the son of Dr Oliver and Mrs Amy Charlotte Turner of St Leonards-on-Sea. He attended Lancing College between 1928 and 1932. He received his commission in the RAFVR to the rank of P/O on probation (emergency) on 20th October 1942 and was promoted to F/O on 20th April 1943.

On the night of 23rd / 24th May 1943 this aircraft took off from Wigsley airfield at 23.23hrs for a night navigation exercise combined with a fighter affiliation exercise. While flying in the Hull area at 03.08hrs the aircraft broke up in the air and crashed over a wide area around the village of Humbleton. Sadly all eight in the aircraft were killed as a result of this accident.

We are unveiling a plaque dedicated to the memory of these crewmen in our village church on 29 May 2016 and would like to trace any relatives of Fulliott Turner and would appreciate any help.

Looking at Freebmd his mother's maiden name was Keywell. Unfortunately it looks as if he may have been an only child as there are no more Turner/Keywell births as far as I can see.

Interestingly though it says on the Lancing War Memorial page.

"Fulliott Victor Polhill Turner was born on the 29th of October 1914 the elder son of Dr Oliver Polhill Turner MD and Amy Charlotte Turner of 119 Marina, St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex. "

He may have had a brother born 1917 as the mother's name is Keysell, so it looks as if it's been transcribed incorrectly.

Robert married in 1951 and it looks as if there were two children from that marriage. I'll PM you the names as they are probably still alive.
