Its a lovely church, loads going on.My friend and i joined a club, just once a month, they made us so welcome ,even though its not our parish,we also go on the walking for health walks sometimes.Anyway, once a month they have open church and sometimes, there is someone there who helps people to locate graves, and they have a plan of the churchyard.Of course,i cant find the details anywhere, but the phone number of the office is 01902 722840 ,or the e-mail is office.htht@gmail.com
So,you never know!!Glen

It was the Open Church morning that we want to , Glenys; really useful - I took a list of over 30 people, and the man there was brilliant.  He gave me A4 sheets with grave plans for each section - we found most of what we were looking for, despite there being very few headstones, but there's no record for Peter Ellam  :-[
Like you say, a really friendly church - my maternal grandmother and her siblings were christened there, and several marriages in the family, too.

Many thanks, Wolves, you're absolutely right - it took me an age to discover. I think the Helm came about as a corruption of Ellam because the couple's accents would be very different to the registrar's! Sorry I didn't post here to say what I'd found, it completely slipped my mind.
We're definitely related through the Ellam line  ;D always god to find a cousin!

I think as people could not read or Wright the registrar wrote down how they pronounced the name, and like you say how the accents came over

Absolutely - we need to think about how different names might have sounded when spoken to the registrar or census enumerator ;)
