James Frost born 1829 Terrington St. John Norfolk
« on: Tuesday 12 April 16 11:32 BST (UK) »
Hi, I'm a newbie so I'm not sure if I am doing this right.
I am trying to find out more about my great-grandfather.
I think that I have found his birth, marriage to Sarah Lake and various census records following them and daughters, Hannah and Elizabeth. They moved from Norfolk to Nottinghamshire
(1861 census) and were in Doncaster by the 1871 census. i have no record after the 1891 census.
I can find the daughters but neither James or Sarah after this date. The family did have some link to Hull but I can't imagine two poor old pensioners moving far from Doncaster.
Any help would be much appreciated if any of these people seem relevant to any other members,
thanks, Dave

On the 1871 census it looks like his place of birth has been crossed out. Sarah's pob looks like Gayton Thorpe, his children were born in Terrington St John.
In 1861 and 1881 it just says Norfolk without a town or village. I haven't found him in 1891, does that have pob as Terrington St John?

In 1881 James and Sarah are in Doncaster with daughter Elizabeth and grandson Albert Frost.

Daughter Hannah has married a chap called Parkin in 1880. Albert gives his father's name as Parkin Frost on his marriage cert. Elizabeth marries in 1881 after census day to a chap called Allsopp. In 1891 both daughters are with their husbands and families. Albert isn't with either, although I think he must be Hannah's son. I guess Albert is with the missing James and Sarah in 1891.
Albert's address at marriage in 1903 is still in Doncaster.

Hi, thanks for your replies.
I have my grandfather Albert's birth certificate. His mother, Hannah  possibly married Matthius Parkin whilst Albert remained with his grandparents possibly because Hannah married Matthius some two years after Albert was born. Albert names his father as Parkin Frost(deceased) on his marriage certificate. This leads me to believe that Mattius is the father as at the time of birth he lived just round the corner from the Frost's.
I am fairly confident as I have found Hannah Parkin on the 1881,1891 and 1901 censuses. I have also found Elizabeth Frost that married John William Allsop 1881. She died in 1947.
I just can't find any death or burial records for James or Sarah (nee Lake). They possibly moved from Doncaster but it has me stumped at the minute.  ???
thanks again, Dave

Have you checked passenger lists?

Maybe they emigrated once the girls were married off :-\

What happened to Albert though, he would be 14 in 1891, possibly old enough to leave them and live in with an employer. he disappears in 1891 and 1901, then marries in 1903.

If it's any help Albert would appear to attest to the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1894, his papers are on FindMyPast, which does explain why he can't be found in the 1901 but not for the 1891 giving as his address was Doncaster. :-\
